The agreement signed between the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) and the Nanjing Institute of Technology (NJIT) from China will allow the exchange of students and faculty members, the implementation of courses and degree programs at both institutions, as well as the joint development of research projects in the field of technology. The visit of the Chinese delegation took place last Wednesday, at the Morro do Cruzeiro and at the Vale Technological Institute (ITV) campuses, and aimed to consolidate academic cooperation between the universities, with emphasis on graduate programs in Computer Science (PPGCC) and Instrumentation, Control and Automation of Mining Processes (PROFICAM).

The meeting between the institutions included exchanges of experiences, presentation of the areas of activity and the signing of a cooperation agreement for future research projects. According to the director of the International Relations Office (DRI) in UFOP, Anderson Germano, the visit of the NJIT delegation demonstrates the protagonism and technological potential of UFOP, which has attracted the interest of the Chinese institution. According to him, the participation of the graduate programs in Computer Science and Instrumentation, Control and Automation of Mining Processes, as well as the Vale Technological Institute, was strategic, since the first actions carried out by the two institutions should be aimed at partnerships among the programs and the institute.

RECTOR'S OFFICE - After visiting the campus, the delegation went to the Rector's Office, where they signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the vice-rector, Roberta Fróes. The agreement will enable different actions and academic opportunities. According to the vice-rector, undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members in the areas of technology in UFOP will be able to take mobility, courses and programs in NJIT. Likewise, students and faculty members of the Chinese institution will be able to experience the exchange in UFOP.

Roberta Fróes highlightes that the university needs to be open to communication with other international and also Brazilian institutions. For her, the NJIT initiative to get to know UFOP expands the university horizons and enables new opportunities. "This mobility opportunity allows for an expansion of our technological and structural horizon, enabling us to understand, comprehend, and participate in the information discussed in a global level," she stated. The vice-rector added that, with the approval of CAPES Global, this agreement becomes even more concrete.

Sun Aiwu, chairman of NJIT university board, views the agreement with great expectation. For him, science and technology must be constantly reported through cooperation for further development. "I also know that UFOP has a long history, with a good social reputation in Brazil," he said, adding that he expects "to have deep cooperation in many areas, such as interaction among faculty members, students and research."
