On March 29 and April 5, the Welcome Project team from the Office of International Relations (DRI) organized cultural activities that offered international students an immersion into Minas Gerais culture.
On March 29, a tour of Belo Horizonte was held with the participation of more than 80 international students. The itinerary included visits to the Kubitschek House Museum, the “Women of Pampulha Walk” at the Pampulha Architectural Complex, as well as lunch and a visit to the traditional Central Market. The group also took part in a guided visit to the Palácio das Artes, concluding the trip at Américo Renné Giannetti Municipal Park. The program allowed students to explore emblematic landmarks of the state capital, providing a rich cultural experience.

After the tour, the students highlighted the most memorable moments of the visit. One of them commented: “The discovery of the museums, the place of arts, and the fascinating stories enchanted me.”
The culture, architecture, and cuisine of Minas Gerais were emphasized as elements that showcase the region’s historical and cultural richness.
On April 5, the Welcome Project took more than 60 international students to the district of São Bartolomeu, in Ouro Preto, to participate in the traditional Goiaba Festival, an important gastronomic and cultural event in the region. During the visit, the students learned about the artisanal production of guava sweets, recognized as intangible cultural heritage of Minas Gerais since 2008.

One of the participants commented on the experience: “I enjoyed the exhibition held there and seeing the variety of sweets made with guava, as well as the dances. It was great!”
In addition to expanding their knowledge of Minas Gerais culture, the trips also promoted interaction among students from different countries and academic programs, strengthening integration.
These initiatives reinforce the commitment of the Office of International Relations to promoting cultural, academic, and social integration for international students, valuing the exchange of experiences and cultural diversity within the university environment.
