Ministry of Education (MEC) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) publish selection process for PEC-G and PEC-PLE programs

 

 

The Ministries of Education (MEC) and Foreign Affairs (MRE) have announced the selection process for the Undergraduate Student Agreement Program (PEC-G) and the Portuguese as a Foreign Language Program (PEC-PLE) for the 2025 academic year. Both programs offer free vacancies in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to foreign students for completing undergraduate programs  in Brazil (PEC-G), as well as language preparatory  courses focused on obtaining proficiency in the Portuguese language (PEC-PLE).

 

The PEC program is a set of activities and procedures aimed at international educational cooperation, complementing other initiatives based on existing bilateral agreements. It stands out for the training and qualification of foreign students, offering spots in Portuguese language courses, undergraduate or stricto sensu graduate courses in Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

 

To participate, candidates must meet certain requirements, such as:

- Being a national of a PEC-G participating country;

- Living outside of Brazil;

- Neither holding aBrazilian citizenship nor having Brazilian parents;

- Not having any type of visa or Residence Authorization for Brazil, except for a tourist visa;

- Being at least 18 years old by the date defined in the call.

 

Additionally, candidates who studied Portuguese during high school must prove intermediate proficiency in Portuguese through the Celpe-Bras certificate or the Guimarães Rosa Institute (IGR). Those interested who do not have a proficiency certificate must enroll in PEC-PLE in addition to PEC-G.

 

Applications are open until August 23, 2024, and must be submitted through the form available in the call.
