After achieving 5th place nationally in the Capes Global call organized by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), UFOP held a meeting to present the program to academic representatives. The meeting marked the beginning of an institutional effort to expand the University’s international engagement.
During the meeting, the guidelines of the Capes Global Program were presented. The initiative provides support for international academic mobility, with a focus on academic missions and faculty training. The initial estimate allows for up to two faculty leaves per Graduate Program (PPG), in accordance with the criteria established by Capes. It was also announced that, if any program does not fully utilize its allocated positions, the resources may be reassigned to other graduate programs within the network, ensuring more efficient use of the investment.
Paula Mendonça, Vice-Rector for Research, Graduate Studies and Innovation, highlighted the scale of the expected impact over the next four years. The projection is approximately 200 academic missions and 200 training opportunities per year across UFOP’s stricto sensu graduate programs. This level of mobility is expected to significantly strengthen the University’s international presence and consolidate academic networks.
As a next step, the Pro-Rector’s Office advised departments to hold meetings with faculty members to discuss participation in the Capes Global Program and develop a training plan. The goal is to identify faculty interested in international missions and professional development opportunities abroad, aligning proposals with the University’s institutional internationalization strategies.
Departments are expected to submit their feedback to the Administration by the second half of April.
