UFOP welcomes Universidad Nacional San Cristóbal de Huamanga (Peru) representative

The International Relations Office (DRI) of the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP) welcomed Dr. Juan Ranulfo Cavero Carrasco, the Universidad Nacional de San Cristóbal de Huamanga (UNSCH) Vice-Rector of Research, in an institutional visit, between March 24 and 27, 2025. The main objective of the visit was to promote the exchange of experiences in the field of scientific and technological research, and innovation. Prof. Juan was accompanied by his wife, Haydee Alarcón Castilla, a retired professor from UNSCH. The institutional visit was coordinated by Anderson Gamarano, the International Relations Office Director, and by professors Edgard Gregory Torres Saravia (DEELT) and Maria Célia da Silva Lanna (DECBI).

On the first day of activities, the professors visited UFOP Rectory, being welcomed by the rector, Professor Luciano Campos, and the vice-rector, Professor Roberta Froes. During the meeting, institutional presentations were made and possibilities for expanding academic and scientific cooperation between universities were discussed. 

The second day was marked by a visit to the Dean of Extension and Culture Office (PROEX), where they were welcomed by the Dean, Professor Cláudia Martins Carneiro. In the meeting, an overview of the actions developed by PROEX was presented, as well as discussions on an extension project coordinated by professors Edgard Gregory and Maria Célia. On the same day, the visitors were present at the Dean of Research, Graduate Studies and Innovation Office (PROPPI), where they watched presentations on the initiatives by that Office, which was represented in the meeting by Mr. Arlem Daniel Pena de Castro, PROPPI Deputy Dean, and by Ms. Izabel Cristina da Silva, coordinator of the Development Axis in Innovation and Action. Also, on March 25th, there was a visit to the Museum of the School of Pharmacy and the Clinical Analysis Laboratory (LAPAC).

The third day of activities was marked by a visit to the  Microorganism Biology and Technology Laboratory (LBTM), located at the Institute of Exact and Biological Sciences (ICEB), being welcomed by Professor Cintia Lopes de Brito Magalhães. In the afternoon, meetings were held with the coordination and representatives of the Graduate Program in Education (PPGE) and the Graduate Program in Mineral Engineering (PPGEM) in order to discuss future partnerships.

On the last day, March 27, the UNSCH representatives visited the Institute of Exact and Applied Sciences (ICEA), in the UFOP campus in João Monlevade, in addition to visiting the Health Surveillance Secretariat of the municipality of João Monlevade, where they had the opportunity to get to know the health programs and actions carried out in the region.

Dr. Juan Ranulfo's visit reinforces the academic ties between UFOP and UNSCH, expanding opportunities for scientific, technological and innovative collaboration between the institutions.
